Bollen Gilles Rie
2017 Annual Juried Competition
Honorable Mention

Statement:
After visiting interior design fairs, I became interested in the practice of creating items in the simplest sense possible. The items that are created are devoid of colors and references that have no specific function but have a certain familiarity to me and perhaps to some viewers.

When I build the shapes I am initially confronted by a curiosity of its visual properties and its behavior as a non-object. Then I photograph these items once to record its existence and discard the object away. As a result, the images produced are my sketches or rough drafts for more ideas and more discoveries.
