The Body Electric
In May, the National Gallery of Australia launched our Know My Name project which is a major ongoing initiative to recognise and celebrate Australian women artists. The project will include exhibitions focused on women artists, social media and digital activations as well as creative collaborations. As part of the National Gallery of Australia’s Know My Name project, we have developed an exhibition of work by women identifying artists on the theme of desire, pleasure and intimacy. The Body Electric will be on display at the Gallery from 28 March to 20 September 2020.
The Body Electric is curated by our Photography curators, Shaune Lakin and Anne O’Hehir. The exhibition spans from the pioneers of feminist photography through to prominent contemporary artists working today. The show will include works by leading Australian and international artists working with photography and video: Polly Borland (USA/AUS), Pat Brassington (AUS), Jo Ann Callis (USA), Charis (AUS), Cheryl Donegan (USA), Petrina Hicks (AUS), Mayumi Hosokura (JAP), Nan Goldin (USA), Pat Larter (AUS), Pixy Liao (CHI), Anne McDonald (AUS), Annette Messager (FRA), Marilyn Minter (USA), Tracey Moffatt (AUS), Momo Okabe (JAP), Lillian O’Neill (AUS), Fiona Pardington (NZ), Carolee Schneemann (USA), Collier Schorr (USA), Cindy Sherman (USA), Lyndal Walker (AUS/Ger), and Francesca Woodman (USA).
The Body Electric is a Know My Name project and is supported by the Medich Foundation.
