UPCOMING COMMUNITY

BAXTER ST Workspace Exchange Residency 2026

BAXTER ST, in partnership with The Monira Foundation, is pleased to present the 2026 Workspace Exchange Residency and the 2026 Monira Special Projects Residency, an opportunity for alumni of both programs to utilize studio space and find points of overlap and engagement with our communities of artists, staff and visitors. The residency prioritizes process over production, offering space for research, testing, and development without the expectation of a final presentation.

The 2026 Workspace Exchange Residency is an opportunity for Monira Alumni artists working in lens-based mediums to have access to studio space in Lower Manhattan. The residency is open to one artist based in the New Jersey / New York region and will take place at BAXTER ST’s Gallery at 154 Ludlow Street, New York, NY for a two-month period between July 1–August 31, 2026.

Artists may use the time to:

  • Scan and archive photographs
  • Edit photo or video work
  • Sequence work for an exhibition or publication
  • Hold studio visits
  • Continue ongoing projects
  • Test new ideas

This residency is intentionally flexible and process-forward, supporting artists at exploratory or transitional stages of their work.

What the Residency Includes

  • Access to a semi-private studio bay in the BAXTER ST basement workspace (approximately 9’ x 8.5’) and shared access to facilities including an Imacon scanner, flatbed scanner, portable lighting kits, computers, and meeting spaces.
  • Studio visit(s) with a member of BAXTER ST’s Art Advisory Committee
  • Promotion and visibility through Monira Foundation and BAXTER ST communication channels during the residency period.

Please note that the BAXTER ST workspace is accessible by stairs only, and that housing and transportation are not provided.

This Opportunity Is Best Suited For Artists Who:

  • Work through process-based inquiry and can articulate the questions driving their practice
  • Are seeking time and dedicated workspace space for focused development, experimentation, or transition
  • Value dialogue, exchange, and visibility as part of their artistic process
