Hard Feelings

Dean Majd

In 2016, Majd reconnected with his childhood friend James at his local skatepark.
He suddenly passed a week later.

Over the next decade, Majd became close to his friend group—part of the Queens skate and graffiti scene, which Majd had left in his adolescence.

Majd’s photographs create a legacy for young men of color from New York, whose lives are often forgotten.

Though it began as a record of truth, Majd’s documentation offered a channel for collective grief.

Majd gives space for his friends to express sadness and traumas—
a space men rarely have.

Hard Feelings is presented in dedication to the memory of
Subash “Suba” Tamang.
