Dawn Chan


A faculty member at Bard’s Center for Curatorial Studies, Dawn Chan is currently a contributing critic to the New York Times.

She has also written for the Atlantic.com, Bookforum, the NewYorker.com, New York Magazine, and The Village Voice, as well as Artforum, where she was an editor from 2007 to 2018. Her writing has been anthologized in publications including Science Fiction (Whitechapel/MIT Press, 2020) and Best, Letters from Asian Americans in the Arts (Paper Monument, 2021). Dawn was one of the co-curators of the 2019–2020 exhibition Phantom Plane at Tai Kwun Museum in Hong Kong, co-presented by CCS Bard. She has guest-lectured at RISD, MICA, and NYU, SAIC, and the Guggenheim Museum, and has received a Thoma Foundation art writing award in digital art and a Warhol Arts Writers Grant.

Dawn lives and works in New York City and the Hudson Valley.
