Unfixed Landscapes: From Anna Atkins to The Ecological Wetroom with Aindreas Scholz
BAXTER ST is excited to present Unfixed Landscapes: From Anna Atkins to The Ecological Wetroom, an illustrated artist talk with Aindreas Scholz on October 8, from 5–6PM.
Join Aindreas Scholz, a photographer, educator, and PhD researcher, for an evening introducing his practice working across cameraless photography, ecology, and environmental research. Aindreas will trace the development of his practice from cameraless photography and climate-adapted cyanotype to his current PhD research and The Ecological Wetroom. He will explain why a research grant brought him to New York to study Anna Atkins holdings at The Metropolitan Museum of Art and the New York Public Library, and how this historical research connects to contemporary questions of ecology, water, chemistry and photographic responsibility. The talk will conclude with an introduction to The Ecological Wetroom, an evolving, evidence-based installation and research project that reimagines the photographic wetroom as a visible ecological system, offering an initial look at its findings and future directions.
Aindreas will also be facilitating a workshop, Cyanotype to Concertina: Building a Folded Sequence, at the Center for Book Arts on Saturday, October 10.
Aindreas Scholz is a German-Irish photographer, lecturer and practice-led PhD researcher based in London. His work explores cameraless and historical photographic processes through ecology, material responsibility and care. Working across cyanotype, installation, artist books and participatory workshops, he investigates how photographs emerge through relationships between sunlight, water, chemistry, plants, place and human intervention. His ongoing project, The Ecological Wetroom™, reimagines the traditional, often toxic, photographic darkroom as a visible ecological system in which photographic washwater, filtration media, hydroponic plants and residual materials become active components of the work.
