Baxter St at CCNY’s Internship Program provides undergraduate and graduate students as well as beginning professionals with practical hands-on experience in the non-profit arts field. We want our interns to work with us, not get us coffee. Participants in the program will be working on the various programs, exhibitions and events.

Eligibility

All interested individuals eighteen years of age and older are eligible to apply for an internship. Qualifications vary for each intern, and some positions may require college or graduate training and/or professional experience. We ask for a commitment of 1 day a week for a three-month period, and are able to offer academic credit as well as free hours in our digital lab. International candidates are encouraged to apply, but please note that we do not provide visas. This internship is non-paid.

Social Media/Design/Marketing Intern

The Social Media/Design/Marketing Intern works with the Program Coordinator and Director to plan, create, and execute Baxter St’s social media and marketing.

This position will be involved with all of the following aspects of Baxter St’s operations:

    • Assist with the creation of digital media including design, photography and video for marketing campaigns including Instagram, Facebook and Twitter posts
    • Assist with the creation of email marketing campaigns on Mailchimp
    • Assist in the design of print media for Baxter St promotion
    • Monitor implementation of digital marketing campaigns
    • Help organize and streamline social media posting calendar
    • Continue to update and expand list of various art event listings

Art Handler/Installation Intern

The Art Handler/Installation Intern will work with the Program Coordinator and the Master Installer to become a skilled art handler apprentice through learning the process of putting up and taking down a show. This intern must be organized, a good listener, and 

This position will be involved with all of the following aspects of Baxter St’s operations:

    • Assist in professional and artistic installation of art work for viewing including installation/de-installation, lighting, patching and painting walls, and wrapping and transport
    • Maintain clean and organized art storage areas including keeping equipment inventories
    • Aid Master Installer and Program Coordinator to lift heavy art objects, execute detailed and careful movement of art objects and work closely with artists during install
    • Basic knowledge in art history and/or production, fabrication and carpentry are a plus

Library/Archive Intern

The Library/Archive intern will help design and implement systems to archive photography, publications, and assets that have stemmed from Baxter St at CCNY projects. This intern must be organized, interested in systems, and visionary.

This position will be involved with all of the following aspects of Baxter St’s operations:

    • Assist in the digitization of archival materials
    • Maintain the ongoing maintenance of archival material and books
    • Process and catalog archival collection and generate database
    • Shelve books
    • Create a wish list of artist books that would be good additions to Baxter St library and sent requests to artists or institutions.

Art Non-Profit Office Intern

The Art Non-Profit Office intern will support the Program Coordinator and Director in running a fast paced art non-profit office. This intern must be organized, a multitasker, and a talented communicator.

This position will be involved with all of the following aspects of Baxter St’s operations:

    • Assist with all grants from government, foundation, and corporate sources and the Membership program
    • Facilitate organizing and processing of non-profit paperwork
    • Assist in digitizing records
    • Provide administrative support to Program Coordinator and Executive Director as needed

Art Event Specialist Intern

The Art Event Specialist intern will be involved with the planning, preparation, and execution of a successful event in our space. This intern must be organized, calm under pressure, gracious, outgoing, and adaptable. 

This position will be involved with all of the following aspects of Baxter St’s operations:

    • Assist in party planning including acquiring decorations, equipment, food and beverages
    • Arrange gallery space and project space for events
    • Staff events and help run smoothly
    • Assist in after event clean up
    • Analyze openings and brainstorm ways to improve

Gallery Assistant

The Gallery assistant intern will take on the tasks of the day and help run Baxter St smoothly. Gallery Assistants are  highly responsible, organized, and detail-oriented interns. Must be friendly, professional and excited to learn and help direct Baxter St’s mission to foster a strong community. As a Gallery Assistant Intern, you will be immersed in gallery life and will work with the Program Coordinator and Executive Director on various projects.

This position will be involved with all of the following aspects of Baxter St’s operations:

    • Assist Baxter St staff with daily operations
    • Greet visitors with a smile and conversation
    • Participate in gallery openings and events
    • Work on projects as needed
    • Perform general gallery maintenance
