Artist Bio
Mauro Restiffe captures large format black-and-white photographs of landscapes, modernist interiors, architecture, and urban life, as well as exploring issues of representation in images that reproduce existing works of art. His series “Empossamento (Taking of Power)” (2003), portrays the urban landscape of Brasilia at a key moment in Brazilian history—the inauguration of president Lula da Silva—while in “Vertigem (Vertigo)” (2009), Restiffe trains his lens on architectural structures. More recently he produced a series of photographs of frescoes painted by Fra Angelico in the friars’ cells of the San Marco Monastery in Florence, depicting them in the textured gray tones of his analog camera.
