About Shen Wei

Born and raised in Shanghai, Shen Wei is an artist based in New York City. His work has been exhibited internationally, with venues including the Museum of the City of New York, the Lincoln Center Avery Fisher Hall, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Moscow Museum of Modern Art and the Liu Haisu Art Museum in Shanghai. His work has been featured in publications such as The New Yorker, Aperture, ARTnews, GQ, American Photo, and Chinese Photography.

Shen Wei’s work is included in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), Philadelphia Museum of Art, J. Paul Getty Museum, Museum of Contemporary Photography, Library of Congress, Carnegie Museum of Art, Museum of Chinese in America, Rockefeller Brothers Fund and Kinsey Institute.

Shen Wei is a recipient of the Rockefeller Foundation Bellagio Center Arts Residency, the Asian Cultural Council Arts & Religion Fellowship, and the Urban Artist Initiative NYC Fellowship. He holds an MFA in photography, video, and related media from the School of Visual Arts, New York; a BFA in photography from Minneapolis College of Art and Design; and an AA from Shanghai Light Industry College.
