Merging analog techniques with political purpose and a poetic sensibility, Avion Pearce, winner of the 2024 Aperture Portfolio Prize, creates a visual world that lives between reality and dreams. Born in Flatbush, Brooklyn, to Guyanese parents, Pearce has been interested since childhood in beauty and the cultivation of a space.

The artist’s new body of photographic work addresses the relationship between tradition and invention as potentially harmonious forces, even in today’s highly polarized social and political climate. The presentation, part of the BAXTER ST Mid-career, Lens-based Artists Initiative, will be on view from March 5 - May 8, 2024 at the BAXTER ST Project Space at 128 Baxter Street, New York City.
